Where Are Folk And Popular Leisure Activities Distributed?
There are many differences between folk and popular culture. For example, the origin of folk cultures are usually anonymous or unknown. But popular cultures are often originated from well-known hearths and are invented as time passes. Diffusion is also a difference between folk and popular culture. Folk culture diffuses through relocation diffusion, but popular culture diffuses by hierarchal diffusion. Folk culture is distributed in a small area and popular culture occupies a large area.
Music in popular and folk cultures are different as well. Some of the characteristics of folk culture music are that it usually originates from anonymous artists and songs are only familiar to a few people. It often tells a story about life events or about the environment and traditional instruments are used. Popular culture music originates from specific individuals and has a wide global distribution. It's usually highly technical and uses electric equipment.
Sports used to be part of folk culture, but now they are a part of popular culture. They originated as isolated folk customs. But they became more popular and more organized with global distribution. For example, soccer used to be an English folk custom with few people that played it. Then suddenly, it became a sport taught in schools and it spread across the world. Soccer globalized and became the world's most popular sport.

Why Is Access To Folk And Popular Culture Unequal?
TV has spread around the world in the 20th century. It's origin was the US. Then it spread to Europe and lastly to developing countries. In the US, it was distributed in a certain pattern. First were the rich people and people who lived in big cities. Then the couples with children bought TVs and after the poor people. The last people to buy TVs were people without children.
The diffusion of the internet/social media and the diffusion of TV had some similarities and some differences. The internet and social media followed the same path as the TV. But they difffused faster, because 40 million people already had computers in 1995 before the internet was accessible. It also diffused into popular culture like the TV but not as fast.

Where Are Folk And Popular Material Culture Distributed?
Folk and popular culture also differ in clothing. Folk clothes often reflect the environmental conditions and cultural values. They are each unique and usually passed down for generations. But popular clothes vary more in time than in place. These clothes are all interconnected and are almost all the same across the world.
There are food preferences and taboos in folk culture. There are foods that certain people think give them distinctive characteristics. For example, men in Mid-West Nigeria don't eat snails because they believe they weaken their strength. Other foods are believed to give you fierceness, strength, and forgetfulness. Taboos are restrictions on behavior because of a social custom. An example is how the Hindus don't eat beef. This is because they need oxen so that every field is plowed before the monsoon rains arrive.
There are regional variations in popular food preferences. The reason for these preferences are their environments. The climate in Asia is good for rice, so one of their preferences is rice. The wood supply in Europe is good for stewing and roasting, so they prefer food like stews. Another reason for different preferences is how developed the country is. A more developed economy is more likely to prefer alcoholic beverages and snack foods.

Why Do Folk And Popular Culture Face Substainability Problems?
There are challenges for folk culture because of the diffusion of popular culture. One of the challenges is preserving their cultural identity. Popular culture threatens traditional elements of their identity. Another challenge is keeping their cultural values. The diffusion of popular culture makes it difficult for the folk cultures to maintain these values and practices.
There are two principal ways that popular culture can adversely affect the environment. One is that it can deplete scarce natural resources. Some examples of these resources are endangered animals, minerals, and energy sources. The other principal way that popular culture affects the environment is by polluting the landscape. We pollute the landscape by making golf courses, fast food restaurants, and gas stations.
